Age 93, of Warsaw, NY passed away on March 8, 2024 at the East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.
She was born May 30, 1930 in Gainesville, NY, daughter of the late Robert and Edna Harry Vallance. Velma was a graduate of Letchworth Central School Class of 1947. She was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Church in Warsaw.
Velma provided day care for many children over the years and private home care as well. She was employed for several years at General Foods in Avon, NY and then she worked for many years at Rochester Products prior to her retirement in 1995.
Along with her parents, Velma was predeceased by her husband, Ignazio D’Angelo; son, Robert D’Angelo; her in-laws, Salvatore and Rose D’Angelo; her siblings, Wayne Vallance, Vernon Vallance, Ronald Vallance, Marvin (Beverly) Vallance, Erwin (Sheila) Vallance, Joan (Charles) Cleveland, Eloise (Ted) Jones; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, Tina (Joe) Vernaccini, Rose (Tony) Carguilo, Theresa D’Angelo, Josephine (Chris) Yaquinto, Lena (Jim) Donovan, Joe (Jean) D’Angelo, Sam (Mary) D’Angelo, Tony (Marge) D’Angelo and special and loving companion, Steven Surtel.
Surviving are her children, Rose (the late Steve) Holmes of Warsaw, Karen (Rick) Martin of West Henrietta, Roxanne Nichols of Warsaw, Thomas (Linda Glosser) D’Angelo of Warsaw; her grandchildren, Heather (Jon) Roedel, Robert (Heather) D’Angelo, Tanya (Van) D’Angelo, Nathan (Christi) Nichols, Cody (Taylor) Nichols, Cory (Heather) Nichols, Tara (Heath) Chambers, Jack D’Angelo; step granddaughter, Lily (Eddie) Allan; her sister-in-law, Pauline Vallance of West Henrietta; several great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
At Velma’s request there are no calling hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 23 at 11 AM at St. Michael’s Church, 171 N. Main St., Warsaw. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. A reception will follow at a location to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org) or the Wyoming County Office for the Aging, 8 Perry Ave., Warsaw, NY 14569 or St. Michael’s Church, 16 North St., Warsaw, NY 14569.
