Shirley Schallert

Age 88, of Sheldon, NY and Sun City Center, Florida passed away on February 14, 2023 under hospice care.

She was born April 4, 1934 in Buffalo, NY, daughter of the late Joseph and Hazel Barber Freyburger. Shirley was a member of St. John Neumann Parish. She was a former 4-H leader, was an avid swimmer and enjoyed sewing. Over the years, Shirley worked for AT&T, Miller’s Egg Farm and the former Clarence Pride Greenhouse. One of Shirley’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Joseph “Butch” Schallert, her great granddaughter, Anna Schallert, siblings, Harold (Charlotte) Freyburger and Joseph (Shirley) Freyburger.

Surviving are her children, Judy (the late Craig) Carlson of Sheldon, Donna (Bill) Brainard of Jamestown, Tennessee, John (Julie) Schallert of Cape Cod, Massachusettes; her grandchildren, Joshua Schallert, Kristen Pettengill, Ashley Casey, Rachael Booth, Ryan Brainard, Allison Camire and Emily Schallert; nine great grandchildren.

Shirley’s Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 11 AM at St. John Neumann Parish, St. Mary’s church site, 3854 Main St., Strykersville, NY. Burial will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, North Java. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
