Ruthanne Rood

Ruthanne Rood, loving mother, dedicated wife, passed peaceful into the arms of God on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

Born December 15, 1926, in Grand Rapids, MI to Mother Anna (Skok) DeGraves, father Robert DeGraves, who precede her in death. Originally from Michigan, she was married on March 27, 1946 to Reo Landon Rood an aviator, with whom she travelled extensively and made warm and loving homes throughout the US, following his career. They moved from Indiana, to Georgia to Connecticut, to Long Island NY before ultimately settling in Warsaw, NY in the early 1970's in the home in which she breathed her last breath.

Ruthanne was the mother of four children: Richard Landon Rood, who precedes her in death, Rhonda Anne Rood, Janine Elizabeth Rood and Thomas David Rood, as well as two grandchildren, Rachel Bridgewater and Derek Bridgewater. Her three living children and loving husband were with her at the end, which gave her and them great comfort.

She went back to school to become a nurse after her children were raised, graduating at the top of her class as a Registered Nurse (RN) from Genesee Community College. She worked at Wyoming County Hospital, East Side Nursing Home and Hospice before retiring in her mid-seventies. Throughout her life, she was an avid gardener, and an active member of the Warsaw Garden Club. Creative in all her endeavors, she was an excellent cook and baker, seamstress and needleworker. She loved flower arranging, decorating, and making every house she lived in feel welcoming to all.

A devout Christian, loving mother, devoted wife, sympathetic shoulder and amazing witness to the power of God, she touched countless lives. She was loved by all who knew her and she will be missed everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A brief memorial service for family will be held in September at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Avenue, Batavia NY. Due to COVID constraints and weather concerns, a Celebration of Life where all will be welcome is planned for late spring 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please send donations to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org, an organization Ruthanne supported in honor of her deceased first child, Richard.
