Rose M. Cody

Age 100, a resident of the East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw and a longtime resident of Silver Springs, passed away on January 8, 2021 at the nursing facility.

She was born April 23, 1920 in Bradford, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Gocella Wilyat. Rose worked for many years at the former Warsaw Elevator Company and then for many years at the Warsaw Pennysaver.

Rose was an avid bingo player and she enjoyed taking trips to area casinos and the occasional trip to Las Vegas. She enjoyed cooking and baking and she was a talented singer. She was also a member of the St. Mary’s Altar & Rosary Society.

Rose was predeceased by her husband, Leo Cody who died on October 13, 2007.

Surviving are her daughter, Maureen Preston of Silver Springs; her grandchildren, Edward “Ted” (Tanya) Cody of Gainesville, Melissa Preston of Silver Springs; great granddaughter, Bridget (Kurt Klein) Ruffner; great great grandchild, Averee; her siblings, Joy Nocera of Warsaw, Carole Stack of Warsaw, Sandy Winale of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Don (Sally) Wilyat of Woodstock, Illinois, John Wilyat of Arizona; close friend, Thressa Cody. She was the sister of the late Lena Wellman, Florence Palermo, Teresa Dunlevy and Vincent Wilyat.

Friends may call Tuesday, January 12 from 1 – 3 & 6 – 8 PM at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Rose’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 13 at 10 AM at St. Michael’s Church, Warsaw. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Silver Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Silver Springs Rescue Squad, PO Box 117, Silver Springs, NY 14550 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
