Roger W. Uptegrove

Roger W. Uptegrove, age 77, of Castile, NY went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 1, 2021 at Rochester General. Roger was surrounded by his loving family at time of death. Roger was born July 2, 1944 in Batavia, NY to the late Louis and Clara (Norton) Uptegrove.

Roger enjoyed spending time with his family. He always enjoyed a good game of Ping Pong, Sorry or Monopoly. He enjoyed singing hymns around the piano with his children. He enjoyed cutting wood in Letchworth State Park to make sure his family stayed warm during the winter.

In 1964 Roger accepted the Lord as his personal Savior. In 1969 Roger and his wife moved to Castile to attend Elohim Bible Institute and graduated in 1972. In October 1976 Roger became the Pastor at Burke Hill Bible Church in Perry, NY. He remained the Pastor until April 1, 2021. Roger’s first and foremost desire was to share the salvation message with those in the community as well as anyone he came in contact with.

Roger worked at Sylvania Electric in Batavia for 4 years. Roger enjoyed electronics and had worked for various electronic places in Rochester, NY. Roger attended Genesee Community College and received two associates degrees. Roger was a custodian for Letchworth Central School District (Castile Elementary). His children thought it was great having their dad work where they attended school except for when they got in trouble at school.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of almost 56 years (Nov 25,1965) Ethel M. (Schramm) Uptegrove, six children-Ruth (Daniel) Smith of Winona, KS, John (Denise) Uptegrove of Angola, NY, Mary Wixson of Thompsonville, MI, Joel (Heidi) Uptegrove of Cheyenne, WY, Jeremiah (Michelle) Uptegrove of Bernhards Bay, NY and Jacob Uptegrove of Perry, NY. Roger is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, two brothers -Robert and Raymond Uptegrove and one sister- Florence Merkle.

Roger was predeceased by one brother-Richard Uptegrove, one sister- Beatrice Richardson and one grandson-Simon Smith.
