Age 86, of Pike, died July 20, 2015 at his home under the care of hospice and his family.
He was born June 18, 1929 in Centerville, NY, son of the late William and Gertrude Dey Washburn. Richard was employed for many years as an equipment operator for the Town of Eagle and for the Town of Pike. He also was employed with Ted Remington & Sons for several years. Richard was a former Mayor of the Village of Pike and was a member of the Pike Fire Department Exempts. He enjoyed working on automobiles with his friends.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 66 years, Lois Remington Washburn whom he married on July 30, 1949; his sons, Morris (Lori) Washburn of McEwen, TN, Mitchell (Elaine) Washburn of Portageville; his daughters, Meredith (David) Allbright of Pike, Marlene Hubbard of Pike, Melva (David) Clark of Jefferson, NY; his siblings, David (Jane) Washburn of Arizona, Edgar Washburn of Fillmore, William (Gertrude) Washburn, Jr. of Bliss; Lynnann Washburn of Olean, Vivian Hamilton of Allegany, NY, Margaret Clark of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Richard Cross, Wilma Benedict, Winifred Wolfer, Arloween Kaiser and Mildred Eyler.
There are no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Private interment will be in East Koy Cemetery. Memorials may be made to HomeCare & Hospice, 450 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569. Arrangements are being completed by Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, Castile.
