Beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and cousin, Richard died Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 73 years old. He was treasured by his eight brothers and sisters and adored by his seventeen nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews.
Richard loved all music but was a huge fan of Elvis Presley. He entertained his family and friends with ballet and Spanish dancing, loved to draw and create “art shows” and to dress up as Superman. He loved all animals with a special love for dogs.
Richard grew up on a beautiful farm in Silver Springs, NY where he spent endless hours raking leaves, picking apples and hiking in the nearby woods. He was a longtime member of the Hilltop Industries community where he enjoyed working and visiting with his many acquaintances. In later years, he enjoyed his time at Silver Lake Day Treatment Center in Perry, NY.
When his mother died, his family dedicated their lives to his care. We are all grateful for that. Richard gave us all wonderful memories and much joy and our lives would not be the same without his delightful spirit. Richard was born with Down Syndrome on September 10, 1948, which never interfered with his upbringing or his love of life. Fly high Superman!
Richard is predeceased by his parents, Monica Kniffin Bush and Harold Bush, his brother, Gerald Bush, sister Joanne Brotherton (widow Robert Brotherton) and nephew Jarrod.
Richard is survived by his brother, Roger (Margaret) Bush of Wetumpka, Alabama; his sister, Roxanne (the late RET MAJ Wilford) Klump of Abilene, TX; Fran Rudgers of Warsaw, New York; Harold (Fran) Bush of Silver Springs, New York; his twin brother Robert (Cheryl) Bush of Geneseo, New York and Elizabeth Bush of Warsaw, New York.
Richard’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 18 at 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Silver Springs. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arc GLOW, 18 Main St., Mt. Morris, NY 14510.
