Age 93, of Gerry, NY, formerly of Wyoming County, passed away on September 27, 2020 at the Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing Facility in Gerry.
He was born October 25, 1926 in Brookville, PA, son of the late Theophilus W. and Elma King Lowery. Rev. Lowery was a veteran of the US Navy having served during World War II and the Korean War. Rev. Lowery was a pastor in the Free Methodist Church Genesee Conference. He served churches in Olean, Dansville and Perry from 1965 to 1991 when he retired as pastor of the Coleman Memorial Free Methodist Church in Perry. He served as Conference Director of the Christian Youth Crusaders and served at both the Cattaraugus Christian Camp and the Barker Lighthouse Christian Camp. Rev. Lowery spent many years serving as chaplain to the Wyoming County Jail. He authored the book “The Bush Still Burns” and in later years attended the Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church in Warsaw. Rev. Lowery was a loving grandfather who always enjoyed spending time with his family.
Rev. Lowery was predeceased by his wife, Violet who died in 1979, his wife, June who died in 2006 and his daughter, Sandra Lowery who died in 2009.
Surviving are his children, Rev. William T. (Linda) Lowery, Jr. of Ransomville, David P. (Nancy) Lowery of Albion, Rebecca (Rev. Paul) Palmer of Nunda, Myke Lowery of Rochester; step children, Pat Lyke of Perry, Sherry Tallarida of Pennsylvania; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; sisters, Edith Geradine of Nashville, TN, Gloria (Andrew) Heffner of Ormsby, PA.
Friends may call Thursday, October 1 from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 and Friday, October 2 from 10 – 11 AM at the Valley Chapel Free Methodist Church, 3415 Route 19 South, Warsaw where Rev. Lowery’s funeral service will be held on Friday, October 2 at 11 AM. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Perry at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Chapel, 7 Church St., Perry, NY 14530.
