The Reverend Andrew C. Chalmers, 84, of Warsaw, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 16th, 2025, in Ithaca, NY, after a brief illness. He formerly served as Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Wyoming for over twenty years.

He was born September 27th, 1940, to Andrew G. and Margaret (Cassells) Chalmers, in Bernardsville, NJ. After attending The College of Wooster, Bloomfield College, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, he was ordained to the ministry on October 22nd, 1967. He served a pastorate in Pittsburgh, PA, and as Executive Director of Buckhorn Children’s Center in Buckhorn, KY.

He was married to Janis L. (Chidester) Chalmers on December 2nd, 1979. The two moved to Wyoming, NY, in 1980, when Andrew was appointed pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Wyoming. In Wyoming, Rev. Chalmers served the former chaplain’s program at Wyoming County Community Hospital, sat on the board of Wyoming County Community Action and St. Michael’s School, and was a member of the first-ever AppleUmpkin Festival committee. He supported the Wyoming County AIDS Task Force and established an annual AIDS Memorial Service. Rev. Chalmers was also elected to serve as moderator of the Presbytery of Genesee Valley.

Upon his retirement in 2002, Rev. Chalmers was named Pastor Emeritus of the First Presbyterian Church of Wyoming. He and his family moved to Warsaw, where he became a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Warsaw, NY. Andrew and Janis remained actively involved in the Warsaw community and were supporters of Greyhound Adoption of Greater Rochester, adopting four retired racing greyhounds over the years.

Rev. Chalmers is survived by his son, Andrew Jonathan (Christine Nye) of Dryden, NY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janis, and his parents.

A Celebration of Life will held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Warsaw, on a date to be announced. A private burial will take place at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church.
