Michael James Murdie, Sr., 70, of Castile, New York, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024 surrounded by family.
Son of James and Jean Murdie, he was born on December 1, 1953 at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. Mike graduated from Kenmore East High School in 1972 and attended the University of Akron where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications.
He began his broadcasting career at the University of Akron, later joined the sales and sponsors division of WNY’s WCJW and did sports broadcasting for the local teams. He was a franchise manager of Red Barn Restaurants, was a leader in sales at Rent-A-Center, and most recently was a District Manager of Pizza Hut restaurants before he retired.
Mike was an avid supporter of the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills. He was a proud coach of his kid’s baseball, softball, and soccer teams. Mike had a love of learning, attending Genesee Community College later in life and was a proud member of the Math Club. He loved to golf, mow the lawn, was a major history buff, and loved Frank Sinatra (he did it his way!). He was a devout parishioner, he served as a lay preacher for the United Methodist Church in Warsaw, New York. Mike was a people-person to the core, had a wonderful sense of humor, made time to talk with everyone, and could make friends anywhere he went.
He is survived by his children, Mallory (Jesse) Caulkins, Jamie (Merlin) Brainerd, Michael (Aanya) Montgomery, Jill (Brian) Lonie, Michael (Danielle) Murdie Jr., Andrew (PJ) Murdie, Paul (Ashley) Murdie, Kimberly (John) Murdie, Ryan (Brittany) Murdie, and Sandra Murdie; siblings, Karen (Steve) Mary, and James (Catherine) Murdie; his grandchildren Abigail and Evan Sarkis, Lila and Lyndie Montgomery, as well as many other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by Mallory’s mother, Cathleen Murdie, and his loving aide, Bridgette Flint.
He is predeceased by his parents, and brothers Matthew (Sharee) Murdie and Stephen Murdie.
Friends are invited to call on Monday, July 1 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Robinson And Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. A funeral service will be held for Mike on Tuesday, July 2 at 11 AM at Robinson And Hackemer Funeral Home.
