Max G. Fisher

Age 93, of Castile, NY, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022 at his home.

He was born March 14, 1929 on Mote Road, Wethersfield, NY son of the late Glenn and Elgia Griffen Fisher. Max was a graduate of the former Pike Seminary Class of 1946; the year the school burned. He was first employed at Conway’s Garage in Castile where he met his love, Suzie. He worked for Gaedeke Brothers Furniture Store in Castile as well. In 1965, Max became the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for Letchworth Central School, retiring in 1991.

Max was a member of the Castile Fire Department as well as the Exempt Firemen. He also served as the Mayor of the Village of Castile.

A man of many talents, most being self taught, he built his house in Castile where he and Suzie raised their family. He loved flea markets and collected Warsaw Embury lanterns, Stanley block plains, lamps and clocks. Max enjoyed building houses and clocks as well as rebuilding cars, antique cars and Cub Cadet tractors. He also enjoyed gardening and feeding birds. At the age of eighty-two, Max made the forms and did the cement work for the Veteran’s Memorial Footpath in Castile.

Max is preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Sylvia Suzanne Rugg Fisher whom he married on September 23, 1950; brothers, Orin (Louise) Fisher, Royce (Violet) Fisher, Otis (Myra) Fisher and brother-in-law, Lawrence “Red” Hare.

Surviving are his children, Max E. (Peggy) Fisher of Orangeville, Raymond (Barb) Fisher of Castile, Glenn (Donna) Fisher of Etna, NY, Beverly (Maurice) Edwards of Castile, Barbara (Horst) Hofstetter of Macedon, Brenda Fisher of Castile; his sister, Genevieve Hare of Castile; grandchildren, Heather (Matt) Heineman, Samantha (Matt Garber) Fisher, Tara (James) Albro, Nicholas (Kristen) Fisher, Christopher (Ashley) Edwards, Mya (Ryan Ayers) Edwards, Courtney (Clint) Dunham, Mattia Hofstetter, Emily (Josh McGiff) Fisher, Logan Fisher; great grandchildren, Sylvianna and Garhett Heineman, Ellie and Harrison Garber, Ashlin, Delaney, Trevor and Zachary Albro, Max Fisher and Kaylee Dunham.

Friends may call Monday, April 4 from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 PM at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 North Main Street, Warsaw where Max’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 5 at 11 AM. Private burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Castile. Memorials may be made to the Castile Rescue Squad, PO Box 338, Castile, NY 14427 or the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY 6400 Sheridan Drive, Suite 320, Amherst, NY 14221.
