MARY E. DEGENFELDER
Age 94, of Castile, NY, died May 1, 2015 at the East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.
She was born February 27, 1921 in the Town of Eagle, NY, daughter of the late William and Mary Belden Shaffner. Mary was the long time cafeteria manager at Letchworth Central School in Gainesville. She was a member of the Castile United Church of Christ and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 76 years. She belonged to the Stebbins Chapter #503 in Pike and was a Past Matron and Past District Officer and State Officer.
Mary was an avid reader and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Edward Degenfelder who died in 2007; her son-in-law, Robin Bowles who died in 2004 and her grandson, Daniel Haxton who died in 2010.
Surviving are her daughters, Oleava (John) Haxton of Bliss, Chyra (Stephen Balmas) Bowles of Castile; 4 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sister, Sylvia (Neal) Ferguson of Warsaw. She was the sister of the late Paul Shaffner, Richard Shaffner and Douglas Shaffner.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 5 from 3 ? 7 PM at the Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile. Mary?s funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 6 at 11 AM at the Castile United Church of Christ, (cor. N. Main & Washington Sts.) Castile. Private burial will be in Curriers Cemetery.
