Leslie A. Shearing

Age 78, of Gainesville, NY passed away on November 2, 2019 at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

She was born July 20, 1941 in Oil City, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Edward Leslie Winger and the late Jane Donahue Winger. Leslie was a graduate of Frontier Central School Class of 1959 and the Highland Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1962. She worked for a short time as a registered nurse at Highland Hospital and then for many years as a registered nurse at Wyoming County Community Hospital until her retirement in 1992.

Following her retirement, Leslie served on both the Town of Gainesville Planning Board and the Wyoming County Planning Board. She also volunteered for the Wyoming County Hotline for Domestic Abuse.

Leslie was a member of the Glitzy Girls in Red Hats and she enjoyed antique shopping, decorating and reading. Above all, Leslie loved her family and especially her grandchildren, with one highlight being their annual apple picking day.

Surviving are her husband of fifty-six years, James D. Shearing whom she married on May 11, 1963 in Hamburg, NY; her sons, James L. (Sondra) Shearing of Gainesville, Matthew E. (Shari Kay) Shearing of Pike, Eric D. Shearing of Athens, Vermont, Richard A. (Cynthia Veum) Shearing of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Donnie, Natalie, Christopher, Matthew J., Stacie, Cori, Raina and Roxanna; her siblings, John (Doreen) Winger of Bradenton, FL, Matthew (Vicki) Winger of Woodstock, GA, Wendy (Howard) Winger of Columbus, OH, Trish (Frank) Montesano of Riverview, FL.

A celebration of Leslie’s life will be held on Friday, November 8 from 4 – 8 PM at Anastassia Events, 6640 Pike Street, Portageville, NY. Light dinner will be served. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wilmot Cancer Center, 300 E. River Rd., PO Box 278996, Rochester, NY 14627 or the Wyoming Community Hospital Foundation, 400 N. Main St., Warsaw, NY 14569. Arrangements are being completed by Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, Warsaw.
