Joy Drew

Joy Drew was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend with a wonderful zest for life. On April 22, 2022, with family by her side, her beautiful soul left this world.

Joy was born to Harold and Alma Shaffer on October 28, 1937 in Webster Springs, WV. She moved to New York, where she met the love of her life, Don Drew. They married on March 23, 1957, devoting 65 years to one another. Three children, nine grandchildren, and many great grandchildren are a testament to Don and Joy’s love and devotion to family. Joy enjoyed spending time with loved ones, leaving all with beautiful memories.

A longtime employee of Champion in Perry, NY, Joy retired with countless fond memories and many lifelong friends. Joy attended several Bingo nights, but her true allegiance was to Bingo at St. Mary’s in Silver Springs, NY where she was forever chasing the queen of hearts and laughing with dear friends. An avid Buffalo Bills fan, she tuned in for every game, especially when it meant rooting against the Patriots. Joy’s baking skills, sassy wit, and storytelling will be remembered in our hearts forever.

Joy was preceded in death by: son, Joe Drew, father and mother, Harold and Alma Shaffer, siblings Betty Tucker, Wanda McCloud, and John Shaffer, and brothers-in-law.

Joy is survived by: her husband of 65 years, Don Drew, daughters Donna McGrath (Carl Minor), Diane (Randy) Scott, son-in-law Tim McGrath, grandchildren, Jennifer (Jon) Prince, Casey McGrath, Corey McGrath, Cody McGrath, Amanda Scott, Ashley Drew, Cassidy McGrath, Steele Drew, Carleigh Minor, many great grandchildren, siblings Don (Janet) Shaffer, Steve (Bev) Shaffer, Alan Shaffer, Rachel (Butch) Zinn, Polly (Jim) Whetsell, Faye (Gene) Trickett, sister-in-law Nancy Shaffer, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Mary’s Hall in Silver Springs, NY on May 7th, 2-6pm.
