Joan E. Hankins

Age 82, of Castile, NY, formerly of Portageville, passed away on July 24, 2017 at Suzanne?s Comfort Care Home in Perry.

She was born November 10, 1934 in Hume, NY daughter of the late Harold and Fanny Tarey Dunning. Joan drove school bus for three years and she and her late husband, Leo owned and operated the Colonial Motel in Portageville for over twenty-five years where Joan also ran a restaurant and an exercise program. Joan raised seven boys and passed along her love of cooking to them all. In 1994, she participated in the Pillsbury bake off with an apple dumpling recipe.

Joan loved reading and crocheting blankets for family, friends and pets. She adored her family and was looking forward to the time when she could reunite with her late son Bruce whom she missed dearly and with her beloved husband. She will be deeply missed.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, Leo Hankins, son, Bruce Hankins and step son, Leslie Hankins.

Surviving are her sons, Terry (Marsha) Brown of Virginia, Norm Brown of Perry, Christopher Brown of Florida, Kevin (Wanda) Brown of Texas, Jeffrey Brown of Florida, Robin (Regina) Brown of Castile; stepchildren, Daryl (Bonnie) Hankins of Palm Bay, FL, Leola (Ronald) Hankins Case of Indianapolis, IN; her siblings, Ray (Fay) Steele of Warsaw, Alfreda Dunning Hare of Castile, Janice Dunning Wolfer of Lexington, KY, Diane (Ronald) Woodworth of Orange City, FL, Linda (Richard) Tisdale; her uncle, Richard (Lois) Tarey of Opp, AL; her aunt, Evelyn Tarey of Portageville; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday, July 31 from 2 ? 6 PM at Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile where Joan?s memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 6 PM. A reception will be held immediately following services at the Lumberyard Restaurant in Perry. Private burial will be in East Koy Cemetery, Pike.
