Age 75, of Orangeville, NY, passed away at home on June 24, 2023.
He was born April 8, 1948 in Ossining, NY, son of the late Robert and Eileen McDonald Thomas. Jeff received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Dayton and did his graduate work at the State University of New York at Brockport. He taught physical education at Warsaw Central School for one year and then taught health education for thirty-two years at Letchworth Central School retiring in 2002. Jeff also was an active member of the Letchworth Teachers Association and served as Senior Class advisor for many years.
Jeff coached Little League baseball for many years in Wethersfield and coached Varsity soccer and Junior Varsity basketball at Letchworth Central School for several years. He served with the Wyoming County Youth Bureau and the Orangeville Summer Recreation program for several years.
Jeff was a longtime volunteer with Angel Action in Wyoming County and the Warsaw Food Pantry. He also spent forty years helping on the Glosser Farm in Orangeville. Jeff was always willing to lend a hand or volunteer wherever he was needed.
He was a longtime member of the United Church of Warsaw and was a former member of the Commission of the church. Jeff was always willing to give his time and talents to any church event or function. He was a longtime member of and daily participant at the Warsaw YMCA; meeting friends, working out and socializing.
Jeff is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Thomas, aunts and uncles.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-two years, Linda Pheifer Thomas, whom he married on August 1, 1970; his sister-in-law, Joan Thomas of Westboro, Mass.; two nieces; grand nieces and a grand nephew as well as countless friends and neighbors.
There are no calling hours. Jeff’s Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 8 at 11 AM at the United Church of Warsaw (cor. of S. Main & E. Buffalo Sts.) followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Private burial was held in Quaker Settlement Cemetery, Orangeville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Warsaw Rescue Squad, PO Box 22, Warsaw, NY 14569 or the United Church of Warsaw, PO Box 205, Warsaw, NY 14569.
