Irene B. Rutherford

Age 89, of Castile, formerly of Silver Springs, passed away on August 10, 2021 at the East Side Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.

She was born January 2, 1932 in Fillmore, NY, daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel Washburn Lyon. Irene was a caregiver for most of her life, doing private caregiving as well as working as a nurse’s aide at the Wyoming County Community Hospital and the former Castile Nursing Home.

Irene loved spending time with her large loving family including Saturday shopping with her granddaughters. She enjoyed crafts, playing bingo, doing plastic canvas art and puzzle books. In earlier years she was also a Girl Scout leader and was a member of the Silver Springs Methodist Church.

Irene was predeceased by her husband, Harland Rutherford, her children, Harlan Rutherford, James Rutherford and Linda Boyd.

Surviving are her children, Patricia (Norman) Tisdale of Castile, Joyce (Eddy) Burns of Castile, Kathy (Victor) Spencer of Castile, Roxanne (Jose) Colon of Orlando, Fla., Randy Rutherford of Bliss; daughter-in-law, Lillian Rutherford of Lady Lake, Fla.; twenty grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Millard Lyon, Frank Lyon, Florence Durfee, Dorothy Buffey and Edna McMaster.

Friends may call Thursday, August 12 from 4 – 8 PM at the Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw where Irene’s funeral service will be held Friday, August 13 at 1 PM. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Silver Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gainesville Methodist Church, 7 S. Main St., Gainesville, NY 14066.
