Age 92, of Warsaw, passed away on December 11, 2024 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital.
He was born on October 31, 1932 in Pike, son of the late Howard and Emma Burbidge Wood Sr. Howard was a 1950 graduate of Letchworth Central School. Before becoming a corrections officer in 1958, Howard worked for a farm in Sheldon and for Sylvania in Batavia. He would work in corrections for thirty years before retiring in 1988 from Attica-Wyoming Correctional Facilities. Howard proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957, stationed in Germany with an armored division during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Attica Exempt Firemen, the American Legion in Attica, the Warsaw Moose Club, the Wyoming County Vets Club in Warsaw, the Perry VFW and the Warsaw United Church of Christ. Howard was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, golfing, but especially loved spending time with family, attending as many activities of his grandchildren as possible.
Along with his parents, Howard is predeceased by his twin sister, June (Norman) Bliss; his brothers, Ray Wood, Robert (Kaye) Wood.
He’s survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Thelma Wood of Warsaw; his son, Larry (Joanne) Wood of Minoa, NY; his daughter Barbara (Keith) Humphrey of Warsaw; his grandchildren, Jonelle (Robert) Gallina of New York City, William (Jamie) Wood of East Syracuse, Jamie (Brian) Landry of East Syracuse, Alison (Owen) Hoffmann of Endicott, Ryan (Jenny) Humphrey of Livonia, Matthew (Heather) Humphrey of Pittsford; his great-grandchildren, Adrian Landry, Emmett Landry, Becca Humphrey, Kinley Humphrey, Sophie Humphrey, Brayden Humphrey, Wesley Wood, Tyler Wood, Ellie Wood, Jace Gallina; his In-laws, Mary Lou Wood, Betty Beglinger, Jerry and Kathy Meyers, Ken and Barbara Beglinger; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call January 4, 2025 from 1-3 PM at Robinson and Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw. Howard’s memorial service will be held immediately following visitation at 3PM, beginning with military honors. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Warsaw Rescue Squad, 40 East Buffalo Street, Warsaw, NY 14569.
