HAROLD ?HAL?? SEYMOUR
Age 86, of Castile, NY, died January 9, 2015 at Highland Hospital in Rochester.
Hal was born June 4, 1928 in Castile, NY the son of the late Harold Sr. and May Greaves Seymour. Hal graduated from the last class of the Castile High School in 1946 and he attended NY State Association of Colleges at Sampson and graduated from Alfred State College. Hal managed the former American Blue Stone Co. of Portageville for many years. He then worked for Motorola Co. and Elitsac Building Supplies in Castile prior to his retirement.
Hal was a man of deep integrity. He worked hard and always put his family first. Great travelers, Hal and Marian visited all 50 states and England. He loved music and dancing. A talented woodcrafter and fix it man, Hal was always tinkering with some project. Hal took much enjoyment and pride in his children?s and grand children?s activities and accomplishments. He had a deep sense of community and volunteerism. Hal was a longtime member, former trustee and business manager of the Castile United Church of Christ. He was a past chief of the Castile Fire Department, where he was a member for 64 years, including 34 years as treasurer. He was also a member and treasurer of the Castile Fire Department Exempts. He was a former Supervisor for the Town of Castile and later a board member for the Town of Castile and Boy Scout leader. Hal served as a board member for the Industrial Development Agency and also was a former member and past president of the Castile Community Club.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Marian (Cottrell) Seymour whom he married on June 9, 1951; his children, Charles (Shellee) Seymour of Manistee, MI., Richard (Deborah) Seymour of Batavia, Anne (Marvin) Wilcox of Silver Springs, Donald Seymour of Pike, Michael (Karen) Seymour of Colorado Springs, CO; his grandchildren, Nathan (Malorie) Seymour, Andrew Seymour, Kristen Seymour, Jacob Seymour, Lucas Seymour, Rachael (William) Allen, Lauren Wilcox, Lindsay (Michael) McLaughlin, Rebecca (Peter) Marley, Jessica, Erin and Caitlin Seymour, Alexander and Logan Seymour; his great grandchildren, Evelyn, Eleanor, Brooks and Brody; two sisters, Sally Ann (Robert) Tompkins of Rochester, NY, Mary Jane (Peter) York of Castile, NY. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews. Hal was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Jose Martinez.
There are no calling hours. Hal?s Fireman?s service and Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24 at 11 AM at the Castile United Church of Christ (corner N. Main & Washington Sts.). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cordelia A. Greene Library, PO Box 208, Castile, NY 14427. Arrangements are being completed by the Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, Castile.
