Age 92, of Perry, formerly of Gainesville, passed away on May 19, 2020 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw following a brief illness.
She was born December 3, 1927 in Milo, NY, daughter of the late Harold and Elsie Hayner Spencer. Dorothy was employed for twenty years as an assembly inspector at GTE Sylvania in Batavia prior to her retirement in 1981.
She was a member of the Stebbins Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Pike. Dorothy was a member of the former Gladiolus Rebekah Lodge in Gainesville and was a member of the Friendly Rebekah Lodge in Warsaw as well as being a former member of the Golden Rule Rebekah Lodge in Punta Gorda, Florida. She served as Past District Deputy and Past Assembly Left Herald for the State of New York in 2006-2007. Dorothy was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #560 in Warsaw and was an avid bingo player.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Donald Grasby who died in 2004, her daughter Linda Matteson and her son Richard Grasby.
Surviving are her son, David (Donna) Grasby of Perry; her daughter-in-law, Ruth Grasby; son-in-law, Tom Matteson; ten grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sisters, Eleanor Thomas of Warsaw, Eloise Spencer of Daytona Beach, FL, Inice Testa of Niagara Falls; her brother, Norman Spencer of Arizona; many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Harold, Jr., Vernon, Earl, Donald, Glenn, George, John and Jerry Spencer, Helen Conway, Estelle Bierman and Betty Slusser.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis a private graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica. A public service and celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at a date in the future.
