Charles R. Torrey

Age 92, of Perry, NY, passed away on October 2, 2019 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw.

He was born on August 5, 1927 in Warsaw, son of the late John and Frances Persell Torrey and was a graduate of the former Gainesville High School Class of 1946. Charles owned and operated Torrey Auto Sales for over thirty years. In earlier years he owned and operated a family farm where they bred and raised Black Angus cattle. Charles loved music; especially gospel and Lawrence Welk. He was a former member of the Warsaw Barbershoppers. He enjoyed reading, politics and always owned large dogs.

Surviving are his wife of forty-seven years, Eleanor Frazier Torrey; his sons, Mark (Katrina) Torrey of Hilton, John (Stacey) Torrey of Maui, Hawaii, Michael Russell of Alexander; grandchildren, Kameron and Kyle Torrey both of Hilton, Carson Torrey of Maui, Amanda, Ashley and Ariel Russell all of Buffalo, Michael Russel, Jr. of Alexander; his sister, Carolyn Waldrop of South Bend, IN; sister-in-law, Audrey Connell of Almond; several nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor and siblings, Robert Torrey and Betty Anderson.

Charles’ memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12 at 1 PM at the Baptist Church of Perry, 77 N. Main St., Perry. Private burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Rochester, 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620 or Suzanne’s Comfort Care Home, 167 N. Main St., Perry, NY 14530.
