On May 30th, 2023, Alvin William Carpenter, Age 83, of Warsaw, passed away at Wyoming County Community Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw. He was born in Gainesville, NY, in the Carpenter family residence on August 16th, 1939. He was born to the late Benoni Carpenter and Edith Bacon Carpenter. He lived in Gainesville and Geneseo, NY throughout his childhood years. He was an all-state wrestler at Letchworth Central School in his high school years and a member of Boys State.


After he graduated from Letchworth, Al went to Houghton College, where his father attended. He met Gay Ann Hall Carpenter and married her on July 2nd, 1960, during his college years. He had his first child and went to Florida State University with Gay where he received his Master’s degree in education. Al returned to Warsaw and became a teacher at Attica Central School for one year. He then became a permanent teacher at Letchworth Central School, teaching math for 33 years. Alvin and Gay had 3 children starting in August of 1962. After his retirement, Al moved to Maui, HI for 12 years until he moved back to Warsaw when his wife became ill.


Al had a love for golfing, the New York Yankees, the Boston Celtics, the Cleveland Browns and Florida State University football. Nothing compared to the love he had for his wife Gay Ann though, who he enjoyed travelling and collecting antiques with.


Along with his parents, Al is preceded in death by his wife Gay Ann Hall Carpenter, who died 3 years ago in February of 2020.

He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Shelly (Shawn) Carpenter Mann of Castile NY, Monique Nikki (Stephen) Carpenter Fornarola of Webster, NY; his son, Jason Marc Carpenter; his 2 siblings, brother, Donald (Debra) Carpenter of Muncie, IN and sister, Laura (Sam) Carpenter Spaminato of Greece, NY; many uncles, aunts and cousins mostly from the Gainesville area; 7 grandchildren, Shawn Patrick (Ashley) Mann Jr., Brigette Michelle (Jeremy) Mann Harris, Elyse Patricia Gay Ann Mann and Charles Thomas Mann II, Rachel Fornarola of Tampa, FL, Stephen Anthony Fornarola of Tampa, FL, and Melissa Carpenter; 2 great grandchildren, Owen Desmond Harris and Avery Michelle Harris of Warsaw; nephew, Christopher Carpenter of Alcoa, TN; nieces, Lois Rose Carpenter and Becky Carpenter of Muncie, IN.


There will be no service. There will be a family gathering held at a later date.
